It seems that this economy mess around the world is not just hitting the Stocks market but also stores and this time it seems that circuit city will be closing 155 stores. The Consumerist announced it today and is all around the net about this issue, You can read it here. My question will be, what will happen with the online part of Circuit City?.
Here are some comments about this issue:
I would rather go to a store where the sales people know absolutely nothing (Best Buy) than go to a store where they will lie to you to get a sale/commission (Circuit City).
I was one of the guys who got laid off today. From what we could tell you, we all saw it coming. Nobody (not even the general manager) knew our store was closing down until this morning.
Circuit City isn’t actually going anywhere though. They’re just closing down stores that aren’t doing well enough to be worth the cost of running them. I’m not advocating laying people off, but had the kept these stores open, they would be going down the drain even faster.
They recently opened a new CC down the street from me (right across from a best buy) and it is the worst designed store ever. Basically a huge circle with cell phones in the middle, 4 racks of CDs and DVDs (not 4 racks of each, 4 total) and a small circle of game crap. Try to find any computer software, cables, a CD that’s not mexican or rap, and a DVD from 2 summers ago and you’ll be lucky.
I believe this. A Firedog employee of the CC I used to work at text messaged me last night saying our store (3708, York, PA) was having an “emergency meeting.” My heart sank, but it wasn’t entirely unexpected.
I only wonder if they’re going to close the six month old location out here in my current city (Norman, OK). Nobody seems to shop there, which actually makes it more pleasant to visit, but obviously that’s not good for busines
