The Fine Print Of Online Shopping
Most of us have probably already bought something from an online store or at least attempted online shopping. Maybe we have done so successfully and would like to try it again when the opportunity arises. Let me ask you though, when you do shop online, do you ever read or look at the fine print published in the online retailer’s website? I suppose not. A lot of people are guilty of this mistake. Most do not even bother reading the fine print and some do not even know what it is.
The fine print in an online store is usually composed of the important details that you need to know about your transaction. These usually include things such as privacy statements, return policies, terms of agreement and the like.
Privacy statements are supposed to inform you that whatever information you will be disclosing to the online store should be kept in the strictest confidence. They cannot share this information with anyone else, lest they be guilty of fraud.
Return policies outline the conditions by which you can return or exchange the item that you bought. A no-return, no-exchange policy is illegal and may be punishable by law.
Terms of agreement state how the online store will protect you, its customer, should anything go wrong.
These details are often the most neglected part of an online transaction, but the truth of the matter is, they are of extreme importance, especially for the benefit of online consumers. Reading and understanding an online store’s fine print will protect you against scammers and identity theft.
Know your rights. Do not purchase anything from an online store that does not appear to protect the rights of its customers. Chances are these stores are just fly-by-night businesses that are out to take advantage of well-meaning shoppers.
