The first basic rule is to become familiar with the auction site you are purchasing items from. When you are buying from multiple auction sites, you should never assume that the rules on one site also apply to another. Be sure to read all rules and guidelines on each site before purchasing items from the site. This lets you know what you are at liberty to do. You will also be able to use this to protect yourself from any fraudulent buyer or seller. Reading this can only benefit you and save you from any potential damage and disappointment.

You should also do some research on the site itself, and find out what type of protection the site offers. Some sites will provide free insurance or guarantees on items that are not delivered, not authentic, or that are not what the seller claims them to be. You should also know what you are bidding on by reading the full description of the seller’s item. Read all fine print and be aware of words that might suggest the item is not what you expected, or not what a picture provided by them may show.

Another rule that you should not hesitate to use would be to contact the seller if you have any questions at all. Before bidding on any item you should always get confirmation on the item by emailing the seller with any item related questions. With that rule stated, you should always establish a top price and stick to it. Once you confirm the exact quality of the item you are buying, then you can determine a top price you are willing to pay.

Follow these rules to ensure a safe online shopping experience. It may not be the most interesting thing you can do in life, but you will thank yourself later.
