N82 vs Samsung U900 Soul vs ?

There is a really great discussion on Howard Forums a user which ask which phone he should buy after having for 10 months the Nokia 6110 Navigator:

After sticking with my Nokia 6110 Navigator for about 10 months, I’m about to succumb to changing handsets once again… Reason: although I generally like the 6110 (and the S60 platform in general), the camera quality sucks greatly. Further more my employer has forced a Blackberry 8800 on me, which does include an unlimited dataplan (whereas I have a split billing system on my other phone), so I do all my browsing, e-mailing, etc. via the BB. As the BB calendar is automatically synced with Outlook over the air, I don’t have that much need to keep the calendar of my 6110 up to date either. Therefore I would like to switch to a pure multimedia / camera focused phone.

I understand from reviews that the camera of the N82 is about as good as it gets at the moment. However I like the looks of the U900 slider better, and it does seem a lot more pocketable, which is of importance to me as I already have to lug around the BB at the same time.

Would anyone recommend the U900 over the (black) N82? Is there a big difference in picture quality between the two phones? Is there perhaps another phone that I should also be considering?

I always prefer the Nokia Phones instead of any other Phone brand but there are many suggestions about which one to choose and you can see the pro’s and con’s of each one.

Between the two, there are a great many differences between the two. Simply put, you’ll be missing out on a lot of hardware with the Samsung versus the N82. You lose WLAN, GPS, GSM 850 (if you’re in the States), and the smartphone platform. The size of the N82 probably isn’t as big as you think. You’ll know it’s there next to your Blackberry, but it won’t be a bother. The image quality will absolutely floor you as well.

Does the U900 really take better pics than the N82?? Must say I’m more inclined towards the N82, the only reason I’d go for the Samsung would be because it is a little more compact, has another design, and most of all, because I’ve been using S60 for quite a while now (Pana X700, N70, 6110 Nav) so I think changing to another manufactcurer’s interface would make a nice change. Have never owned a Samsung though, so don’t know what their menu system is like.

Am going to check out the N82 black IRL, if I like the design and it doesn’t seem to big to me I’ll probably go for it! Thanks for the advice guys!

After playing around with both phones I must say I wholehartedly agree with JonnyBruha that the choice between the Sammy and the Nokia wasn’t much of a dilemma at all! The U900’s UI feels a bit late 90’s to me, except for the main menu grid it’s almost all text! The gallery your supposed to watch your 5 MP snaps in isn’t much to write home about either.

Am luving my black N82 now! Didn’t quite realise how much of an upgrade it actually would be compared to my 6110 Nav: WIFI, incredible camera, auto rotation, etc. are great. Thought the N82 would feel really big, but as the weight (which is less than the 6110 btw) is balanced out well, it doesn’t bother me at all. Visually it’s a great match to my BB as well. Was even impressed at the phone transfer app which flawlessly transferred my texts, pictures, contacts, even the recent calls lists! (Transferring my 700+ calendar entries made my realise the Sammy’s limited capacity of only 200 entries wouldn’t suffice either.)
